TEAM UPDATE:
The Finals series changes everything. It’s all to play for. Losing a championship in pit lane is not what we are here to do.
We play to win, not come second. This place is treacherous and a car killer. There’s no reward without taking risk.
We sent out the car with a hefty chunk of bear bond holding the front bar in place, which is not unusual at this circuit. It was dislodged and had battle scars, but it was not broken. There’s no question it meant the best was taken out of the car, but there was still a chance. In the end it didn’t survive the tyre bundles.
Before us now is a Herculean mission to get back on track tomorrow. The crew is working hard through tonight and will aim to be back on track for qualifying, all going well.
Fortunately Paul Ceprnich’s PACE Innovations is half an hour from the track. We’ve been here before in 2016 with overnight repairs, and we are going to give it a red hot go again now.
We sincerely hope the photographers and spectators are ok and we’ve been in constant contact with Supercars to follow up on their well being.
Thank you to the volunteers, officials and medical crew for their professionalism and quick response.
RACE RESULTS:
Will Davison's #17 Shell V-Power Mustang ended the race in 13th, after starting from 17th on the grid.
It was a strong drive from Davison, who actually crossed the line in 9th after impressing on the streets of the Gold Coast - but a questionable 5 second post-race penalty saw him drop down the order once the classifications were finalised.
Sunday's action begins with a two-part qualifying session, before another 250km race rounds out the weekend.
