Wilson Security sticks with Dick Johnson Racing for season 2013
By its own admission, Dick Johnson Racing entered into season 2013 well behind the eight ball. However, a new and strategically focussed management team, coupled with a loyal fan base and a very supportive core sponsor group, has paid dividends. A win by young star Chaz Mostert in Queensland recently has underpinned this resurgence. The major emerging partnership has seen DJR forging strong links with Wilson Security for 2013.
Arriving at the Clipsal 500 with Wilson Security and subsidiary Advam on the flanks of the two DJR Falcons, was just an interim solution to provide short term support to the team. However Team principal Dick Johnson and The DJR commercial team worked with Wilson Security to build a longer term vision to see the two DJR Fords carry the strongly recognised Wilson brand throughout the Championship.
“I am really pleased that Wilson Security has now committed to stick with us for the full 2013 V8 Supercars Championship,” Dick Johnson said. “The whole team has been working very hard to move DJR up the grid and there have been a number of really good things in recent months. The arrival of Chaz at the Perth round, Shell’s branding on the #17 Blanchard Falcon and of course taking out a race win at QR are all part of the building blocks. We had set out to reward Wilson Security and John for their belief in us earlier this year and believe we have come a long way to achieve that.” Johnson added.
“It’s no secret that we are on the lookout for more commercial backing, but we wouldn’t be where we are now without Wilson Security and the support of all our team partners and fans. I’m also extremely grateful for the efforts that Tim Edwards, Rod Nash, Rusty French and the team at FPR have done for us as well, I really can’t overstate that. They have gone above and beyond for us,” he concluded.
Wilson Security CEO John McMellan added, “We did move to support DJR earlier this year on a short term basis based on the simple fact that they needed a hand and we wanted to help. Since then they have proven their ability to deliver a solid commercial platform for us that has worked in a way that was supportive and complimentary to our overall plan and you will see some of this as the season continues. It is important though to understand that we have never intended to preclude DJR from finding another major partner and this is still our position.
“We are really pleased to see how the team has regrouped and perform at a very competitive level as the season progresses. Our decision to provide support for the remainder of 2013 is to assist the team by providing them with stability and certainty for the season whilst they continue to regroup and execute their new business plan” McMellan said.
