JIM BEAM RACING LOCK IN SECOND IN V8 TEAM'S CHAMPIONSHIP
JIM Beam Racing have solidified second in the V8 Supercar Team's Championship after drivers James Courtney and Steven Johnson finished sixth and eighth in today's second race of the 2010 series at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
And in further good news for Dick Johnson Racing, its third entry of Jonathon Webb finished 18th, the result enough to land him in 10th place in the championship points after his first weekend of full-time racing with The Team.
The Team is the only organisation to have three drivers in the top 10 positions in the V8 Supercar Championship Series after the YAS V8 400.
Courtney qualified fifth for today's 43 lap race, which like Friday's race, started in daylight and finished under the massive light system and night.
The #18 Jim Beam Falcon driver was able to get by slow-starting pole man Mark Winterbottom from the grid, settling into fourth place in the opening stages before the FPR Falcon managed to sneak back by on lap eight.
Courtney pitted on lap 14 and then again on lap 26 before engaging in a spirited fight with Craig Lowndes' Commodore.
Lowndes was able to get by on lap 38, though Courtney was able to solidify his sixth place and bring him another solid result for The Team and lock himself into fifth place in the championship points.
His team-mate Steven Johnson qualified 13th, a similar position to Race 1, though improvements to the #17 Falcon meant he was able to work his way up to eighth by the end of the race.
He had been on target for seventh place before a late race mistake allowed Lee Holdsworth to sneak by and drop him one spot.
Reigning Fujitsu Series champion Webb qualified 16th for today's 200-kilometre race and managed to avoid first lap chaos that saw Steve Richards spin off the circuit and other cars – Webb included – fleeing the racing line to make sure they escaped without damage.
The #19 Falcon FG ended up recovering to come home in 18th, a result that coupled with his eighth place in Race 1 on Friday sees Webb sitting 10th in the championship.
The V8 Supercar Championship Series now moves to the Bahrain International Circuit next weekend for Races 3 and 4 of the series where the drivers will be using the Grand Prix-length circuit for the very first time.
