Courtney's expecting 2nd child on Valentines Day
18 August 2009
In-form Falcon driver James Courtney has had a boost for this week's V8 Supercar Championship event at Queensland Raceway with news he and wife Carys are to become parents for the second time.
The Gold Coast-based couple have revealed their second child is expected on Valentine's Day (February 14), 2010.
"We are both feeling on top of the world," said the 29-year-old Jim Beam Racing driver.
"I couldn't believe it when Carys told me the birth is expected on Valentine's Day - how cool is that!"
"Hopefully I can double celebrate by winning this week (at Queensland Raceway)."
Courtney is among the favourites for the Queensland Raceway event, held from this Friday to Sunday, after claiming pole position and winning the first of three races in the 2008 championship round on the 3.1km circuit near Ipswich.
The Courtney's first child, daughter Zara, was born on the Gold Coast in January 2008.
"I was a 'rookie' parent when Zara came along, but for our second child I'll be more up to speed with changing nappies, sterilising bottles and all the other things," said Courtney.
"This is perfect timing because after Zara was born, both Carys and I wanted a close (age) gap to our second child so they can do things together as they grow."
Carys Courtney said her husband had been a willing learner with pre-birth and parenting duties, regardless of his racing commitments.
"James has a busy racing schedule, but he enjoys being a Dad, and he's good at it apart from night feeding sometimes," she said. "We don't know yet if our second child is a boy or a girl, but either way James will probably have fun road-testing the prams like last time!"
Courtney's 2009 results include a race win in Townsville in July and second places in events at Hamilton in New Zealand in April, and at Sandown in Melbourne on August 1. He finished on the podium in the Bathurst 1000 in each of the past three years.
The Queensland Raceway event, televised on the Seven Network, begins with three practice sessions on Friday, followed by qualifying sessions and races on Saturday (100km) and Sunday (200km).
