Queensland Premier Anna Bligh today announced a list of 150 most famous Queensland Icons, including Jim Beam Racing Teams patriarch Dick Johnson in the sporting category. Sharing the status with world renowned Queenslanders such as Susie O’Neill, the Bee Gees and The Great Barrier Reef, the list confirms what the team at Dick Johnson Racing already knows, that Dick Johnson is in fact a living legend.
At a media packed press conference at Suncorp Stadium Anna Bligh announced the complete list of entries, whilst bush poet and fellow Queensland icon Rupert McCall recited an amazing exemplar of prose including all 150 icons.
The list has been prepared to celebrate Queensland 150th Birthday celebrations this year, and the final list came from over 30,000 votes from fellow Queenslanders.
“It is an absolute honour to be named”, explained Dick after the ceremony. “To be honoured by your fellow Queenslanders is just fantastic. I have lived in this beautiful state for most of my life and raised my children right here in Brisbane, there is no where on earth I would rather live or be right now”.
The list of Q150 icons will be added to the Archive at the State Library, only further guaranteeing that Dick Johnson will remain in the heart and soul of Queenslanders for many years to come.
