Grant Denyer hands over the keys of 777 to Courtney for AGP
24 March 2009
Grant Denyer today officially handed over the wheel of the 777 BF Falcon to James Courtney to ensure that Jim Beam Racing field both the #17 and #18 for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this weekend.
Courtney sustained major structural damage to the #18 FG Falcon after a large argument with a wall at turn 4 in Adelaide at the weekend. “The Car will need to be put back on the Jig”; explained team Sporting Director Adrian Burgess, “there was some damage to rails and rear firewall etc, so the car is already on its way back to Queensland to undergo the repairs we require to get back on track for the Hamilton 400”.
Jim Beam Racing lobbied V8 Supercars Australia for special dispensation from entering the #17 car at the AGP, and have been given permission to run the 777 BF Falcon in the FG’s place. Robbie Jones from Melbourne based Cartrek Signs has committed to the The Team that he will work 24/7 over the next couple of days to ensure that the bright blue 777 BF carries the 2009 Jim Beam Racing Livery for the first race of the event on Friday. Robbie, who is also contracted by V8 Supercars Australia to livery their Safety and Course Cars, will begin the lightening transformation on the BF tomorrow morning in the Jim Beam Racing garage in pit lane.
“Of course I would much rather be driving the FG and getting to know the car better before the next round, but to be rational, we need to ensure that we field the best possible car for championship points in Hamilton”, said Courtney, “And I’ve promised Grant I’ll look after his BF.”
When asked if he was nervous about loaning his Fujitsu Development Series entry to Courtney for the weekend Denyer explained; “Look, I’m happy to hand over the keys for the weekend, but rest assured, I will be in that garage watching over it as he takes to the track”.
