Grant Denyer has today astonished both the television and motorsport worlds by successfully steering a V8 Supercar just 8 months after breaking his back in 6 places. It was feared he would never make a full recovery, but the test day today at Queensland Raceway has proven, to not only Grant himself, but his critics, that he can come back and be a force to be reckoned with.
Grant’s Crimsafe BF Falcon recorded great speed around the paperclip – impressing team sporting director Adrian Burgess. “Grant has the determination to succeed in this game – we just need to make sure that he is completely comfortable with the set up of the car. Once we get that right I have no doubt that he will start to show us results”.
“I am feeling the most comfortable I have ever felt in a car. From the ergonomics through to the whole set up and the team – everything has just come together perfectly. As with anything new, there are a few minor changes that need to be made – but nothing earth shattering at all”, explained Denyer. “I’m just so excited that I am back in the game!”
The team’s goal today was to ensure that Grant was comfortable with the complete car set up. Team Medical Representative Phil Young explained; “We made a few minor adjustments to the seating position in the car, just to alleviate a bit of lower back stiffness that occurred later in the day”. “As soon as we did this – he was right as rain and back on the track. No more complaints”.
After the successful first outing today Grant is now convinced, and, in his own words “100% confident” that he can complete the entirety of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series. Grant’s first race will be at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide next week.
