Jim Beam Racing superb at Symmons Plains
23 November 2008
Will Davison and Steve Johnson were an outstanding combination at Tasmania's Symmons Plains this afternoon for the penultimate round of the V8 Supercar Championship, the Falken Tasmania Challenge.
The Jim Beam Racing duo both finished in the top six overall for the round, with Davison reclaiming fifth spot on the Championship points table as both he and Johnson sit inside the top ten on the Championship table heading to the final round at Sydney's Oran Park in two weeks time.
Having qualified in 18th position, Davison's effort in the first race where he swept through the field in wet conditions to be fourth by race end was the telling performance and laid the foundation for a remarkable fight back after such a disappointing and uncharacteristic qualifying result.
The duo spent today's two outings nose to tail for a majority of the 50 lap races, with Davison 5th and Johnson 6th in the day's opening race, and Davison 6th and Johnson 7th in the final race of the weekend allowing both to cruise the Symmons Plains track in fairly comfortable circumstances.
Johnson has really turned his season around since the Sandown round and today was another terrific performance from the Queenslander; after a solid qualifying effort where he was fifth fastest he fully capitalised to be inside the top ten for all three races this weekend.
Johnson and Davison's terrific form has catapulted Jim Beam Racing to third place on the teams Championship points table, an indication the team is well and truly on the right path with terrific pace that has them capable of running with the Championship front runners.
Will Davison Quotes:
"Any weekend you qualify in 18th position and finish 4th, you have got to be absolutely over the moon, we really stuck at it, had a good race car and were able to make the most of the wet conditions in the opening race which really set us up."
"I came to Tasmania with the aim of getting back fifth spot in the Championship and hoping for a podium, we got back in the top five and just missed the podium so it was a terrific effort from the team."
Steve Johnson:
"To be in the top ten for all three races was just a really solid and consistent performance."
"Neither Will or I finished outside the top ten in all three races, so to be that consistent on a track where you never quite know how things may pan out is very pleasing; and to have to Jim Beam Falcon's in the top six for the round is a very good performance."
