Jim Beam Racing kicks off Bathurst campaign
09 October 2008
Jim Beam Racing got its Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 campaign underway at Mount Panorama today as the team works towards the first stages of qualifying tomorrow afternoon.
Will Davison and Steve Johnson placed 13th on the timesheets at the end of today’s practice session.
The duo worked closely with engineers on car set up throughout practice, with Davison confident at the end of the final session that the #18 Jim Beam Falcon is placed well for qualifying tomorrow.
“I didn’t quite get a flying lap in during the final stages of practice with the new tyres on, and it was the best the car had felt all session so we were looking good to be further advanced than where the timesheet currently has us sitting,” explained Davison.
“We had to make a few changes which really held us up today, but it’s very early days and we have another practice session in the morning to have things ready for qualifying.”
Davison’s team mate and endurance co-driver Steve Johnson had limited time in the car today due to the need for set up adjustments but is looking forward to more time on the Bathurst circuit tomorrow morning.
“With the changes we made I really didn’t get to many flying laps in today, but in was just a matter of necessity and working through set up more than anything,” said Johnson.
Jim Beam Racing endurance drivers Steve Owen and Warren Luff were impressive in the #17 Jim Beam Falcon, on the pace from the outset the pair were 6th overall today.
“It’s still very early but it’s quite pleasing to sit inside the top ten from the get go, it gives us great confidence going into tomorrow,” said Owen.
With little changes needed, the pair were able to get some quality time in the car leading into qualifying.
“The team and the car were brilliant, to be able to get some quality time in the car is invaluable so I’m looking forward to tomorrow,” said Luff.
